In the historic centre of Vila do Porto, in Santa Maria Island, we were asked to restore an old building to house The Environment Centre Adalberto Pombo. The proposal lies on an intervention that encompasses the totality of the building, opening a new volume backyards. The proposal program tried to take advantage of the old building existence spaces. Thus, the social areas are sited on the ground floor to take the opportunity of its gardens and its basalt rocky walls. The new volume has the conference room and administrative rooms. The new volume, facing the landscape, establish a new dialogue between the past and the new.
