The Factory of Pico S. Roque whale oil produced until 1986, when whaling was terminated by the international Directive. Immediately the Regional Government purchased the complex that had a view to musealization and establishment of an industrial archeology museum, part of the Regional Network of Museums.
At first glance the intervention focused on the integral maintenance of the main building and its manufacturing equipment, and now, after 25 years, there has been the rehabilitation of the old Fence - outdoor location for the storage of oil drums - as well as the recovery of small support buildings: workshop turner; blacksmith tent; carpentry, lavatories and small stores, all these deployed dispersed but logically integrated into the manufacturing.
This project was developed taking into account the maintenance of the innate characteristics of the formal spaces that reference the innate identity of the place, trying to do the best bridge between these collective identity references with the new realities and new uses, a sensory apprehension about the historical process while layer under layer, built of genuine and true form with your time. Beyond questions of time, it has developed a sculpture garden with drums.
